Methylcobalamin is the active form of vitamin B12. In a small double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of type 1 and 2 diabetes with neuropathy, the patients given oral methylcobalamin at a dose of 500 mcg three times daily showed significant improvements in somatic and autonomic symptoms compared to placebo.
